The Artist

I see life in brushstrokes.
My passion is to capture the
spectacle of life, for every breath
carries the message of eternity.

My Journey

BIO

Daniel Bota developed his passion for art early on. His father, an engineer, painted in his free time, which fed and awakened his son’s passion for art. Until the construction of his identity as an artist, Daniel grew up in the environment of the visual and cultural references cultivated and transmitted by his family.

As a child, loved to browse the Geniuses of Painting collection and Michelangelo’s sketches. The artist says that at the age of 9 he had a drawing of a Mercedes-Benz car published in a German magazine with worldwide circulation. “It was a contest for the brand magazine. I earned 50 German marks at the time – an unforgettable achievement for a child”, he says. His natural talent for drawing gained body and as a teenager, he studied at “Escola Cândido Portinari”, where he deepened the fundamentals of drawing, which designed him for his professional choice.

Graduated in Advertising by Mackenzie University, Daniel set out to experience the advertising market in the years to come. For a long time he worked as an Art Director in several advertising agencies (São Paulo / Brazil). The academic training combined with professional practice has given him solid baggage to develop his art.

A lover of surfing, his first works as an artist were a series of paintings from his heart sport, which earned him his first exhibition on the São Paulo subway (Metrô). Experience that paved the way to choose living as an artist. His paintings have gained enormous prominence in the sports scene. As an example, the painting in honor of Ayrton Senna, nowadays,  belongs to the family of the pilot and got highlighted by the Institute (IAS) as one of the main 5 artworks made to him.

DBota as he usually signs, studied painting at “ADA” (Accademia d´Arte) in Firenze, Italy. He is also member of the Paulista Association of Fine Arts, with several award-winning arts. The artist also participated in several collective and individual exhibitions in Brazil and abroad.

ARTIST´S STATEMENT

In one of his letters to his brother Theo, Van Gogh wrote: “How beautiful in art, as long as we can retain what we have seen. We are never disinherited, nor truly lonely, never alone.”

Art allows a dialogue with its observer. My experience translates into this tireless quest. My passion is to capture the spectacle of life that is constantly moving through colours and shapes. Be it a landscape, a portrait or even an abstraction.

I see life in brushstrokes and I chose a freer and more contemporary way of painting. Therefore, I believe that my painting style is spontaneous realism.

Wherever I look I see life in textures and try to translate it into brush strokes. Experience has taught me that the best way to do this is to let the paint do what it does best: look like paint.

I admire a visceral brushstroke. For this reason, I like to explore splashes, drips, layers, using  handkerchiefs and spatula and I make a point of making the brushwork apparent, whatever technique it is: acrylics, oil, watercolour or gouache paint.

I feel challenged to represent the richness of our world. My passion is to capture the spectacle of life, for every breath carries the message of eternity.

I conclude with Roger Scruton’s inspiring words: “Art as we know it is at the threshold of the transcendental. It points beyond this world of accidental and disconnected things, towards a sphere in which human life is graced with a logic emotional that makes suffering noble and makes love worthwhile.”
